How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
Whoever heard the old saying ”sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite”? This was a favorite from my loving German Grandmother that grew up on a farm in the early 1900’s As kids in the 1960’s, we always thought it was just an old-fashioned saying - after all Grandma was aging, she had quirky old-fashioned ways, it couldn’t be real, could it?...
Fast forward to 2015: My stepson is getting married, and a close friend calls one week before the wedding – “we can’t make the wedding”. At first, my heart skipped a beat, what is wrong? Is someone sick? What is the tragedy? She paused, “I’m not sure I should tell you”. Another long pause. “We have bedbugs.”
WHAT?? They're REAL? Apparently so. AAAAAACK!!!!!
Turns out a little research was needed. What are they?
“Bed bugs are parasitic insects of the cimicid family that feed exclusively on blood. The name bed bug derives from the preferred habitat of Cimex lectularius: warm houses and especially near or inside of beds and bedding or other sleep areas.”
Why now? It turns out they have made a resurgence. My friend’s husband had been doing extensive traveling in the US and Canada – and unwittingly brought the little hitch-hikers home.
My friend was clearly mortified. Embarrassed. Humiliated. Grossed-out!
She called her regular mosquito exterminator. What a process – 6 weeks: chemicals, putting clothes in bins, chemicals, washing, chemicals, throwing away mattresses, chemicals, chemicals, chemicals.
Finally, after Thousands of $$$, they were gone, but her life was turned inside out.
There has to be a better way – turns out there is! HEAT!
These are the ThermaPureHeat® and the Temp-Air Heat Remediation System®. ... Once the bed bug thermal death point is reached at all of the sensors (~113°F), the heating process is continued for 60 minutes (or more) to kill all of the bed bugs and their eggs.
With heat, bedbugs die within minutes, eggs are evaporated. They are GONE!
